Hi Magnus,

To me, anxiety is a feeling of fear (fear being a biological signal indicating danger) where the danger is perceived, rather than actual.

- Anxiety over being stuck in a dead-end job (the danger being to a person's future happiness/self-esteem).
- Anxiety over having too much work to do (fear of burnout, monotony, rigmarole, etc).
- Social anxiety over fitting in with groups/making a fool of oneself/etc (the danger being to a person's self-esteem).
- Anxiety over difficulties in the family (the danger being loss).
- Anxiety being triggered in a given situation, because it reminds a person (unconsciously) of a past, difficult situation (phobias fall under this bracket, e.g. making a fool of oneself in a school play at the age of 5, being afraid to give a presentation at 35, etc)

Etc, etc - anxiety tends to be focused on what could happen in the near future (mostly, sometimes it's about distance events).

To remove anxiety, rather than hoping simple hypnotic suggestion will do it (I find that's rarely the case) establish an ideo-motor response from the "unconscious mind" and ask the UCs what issues are causing the anxiety ("that's right, and as that finger lifts the unconscious mind can bring into full conscious the issues and reasons behind these anxious feelings... that information is becoming clearer in words, in pictures, in ideas... that information is becoming clearer in thoughts and feelings... Just what is behind those anxious feelings? And as that finger lifts, that information is becoming clearer and as that information is becoming clearer that finger lifts..." - you get the idea).

Often bringing the basis for anxiety into full consciousness robs it of much of its power. From there, work with what comes up and be flexible.

Cheers,

Adrian

One thing I have done is to have the person become aware of where the feelings of anxiety start...and where it ends up at...Find out what the cycle is...then cycle it backwards...so it then turns into a new feeling. Then you can future pace this feeling into the persons future. Use google and search for bandler spinning feelings.

Any hypnosis script will help with anxiety because they help teach people how to relax and you can't be relaxed and anxious at the same time! However, to help someone transform their anxiety, you'll be much more effective doing a 1:1 interactive uncovering session of some kind. I specialize in anxiety issues, and usually start off with a Body Wisdom process--where is the issue located in your body, what's it look/feel/seem like, and ask that representation of the issue some questions, i.e. what is your purpose, what do you want me (client) to know, what do you (representation of the issue or part) need to feel better? By going thru this process, you get at uncovering the purpose of the issue, and reframe it to find a more beneficial way to manage the concern (i.e. "anxiety is to protect me"--well, how can you feel safe and protected in a way that is more productive/positive for you?) And they get at the solution themselves, which is going to be a million times more powerful and potent than any "script." I also usually anchor in the anti-anxiety experience or feeling, whatever that is for them, so they have a tool to us whenever anxiety does come up for them (it's different for each person and situation, but that feeling/color/experience of calmness, or confidence, or success, whatever it is that comes up to create the feeling where the anxiety cannot be present for the client.)

Hope this helps. Hypnosis has been a truly life-transforming tool for my own anxiety, and I love seeing its success with others.

Sounds great- except that it wouldn't work for me at all because I don't have to feel the least bit hungry to crave dessert, and I wouldn't stop eating dessert just because I felt "full" (if ONLY!). I'd stop eating real "food" if I felt full, but no…
