Inductions: How fast is fast?
Richard Nongard and I have produced the now internationally selling / in use DVD Hypnosis training set, "Speed-Trance." I think we are up to 6 continents now.
A question someone asked me in terms of inductions recently was: how fast is fast?
I am not discussing re-inductions here, just a cold start, walk up and out-- dropped more or less shoulders to knees, the fastest you've been timed.
Altho I wish we had Olympic style timers, my fastest timed from a cold start to a shoulders to knees was .6 seconds (6/10ths of a second) in a prep-school in MA. This is also taking into account the time it took the kid with the chronograph watch to see me work and click the start and stop buttons on the watch, watch movements and shifting, so I'm truthfully asking, how fast is fast?
And how much faster can we as a profession get?
Hypnotic Best,
The Trance-Master

While I do agree that is true I have found chairs with arms in a stage show can be actually dangerous. I was recently filming for a TV show here in the US and they wanted me to use pool hall chairs with side arms... in so many cases I am sure you would agree people have a tendency to go to their side and if they are wacking ribs on those arms it can be far from comfortable

My stage induction can run from eight to twelve minutes depending on the show. I've found that as long as the induction is not too long, most people in the audience love to watch there friends going under.

If you look at the actual moment in the clip 51secs into the clip when I ask him if he wants to be hypnotized it takes around 2-3 seconds to go into hypnosis.

Sean,
I think wearing the "ask me about hypnosis" button made your induction go much faster. :-)

I think your recorded time must be pretty close to a world hypnosis record John, and i am a great fan of your and Richard's speed trance techniques.

I reckon though, it often saves time to skip the induction altogether, it's a great way to shave 6/10th of a second of the hypnotic process :)

Ok Alexander this is a re-induction and if that takes more then a split second you are doing something terribly wrong..

Here on my video at 1:16 are 3 re-inductions back to back..

However this discussion is from cold start to hallucinogenic or somnambulism depth trance in which rapid inductions are used..

I have a question, what is the purpose of such a speed?

Thats a good question however with a great answer depending on what side of the fence you are on with inductions..
a progressive relaxation induction is great in a therapy office in fact it can add to the ambiance of the session...

In a stage show it is the standard and most guys use it as the primary induction because it works. However in a show if you spend 5 minutes warming the crowd up and 5 minutes getting them seated then as szeles throws in another 12 minutes.. Well in an hour show you now have 38 min of material. if you have any back end sales that gets cut less and less.

So the average is a 30 minute show perhaps a little longer of actual skits.

Now kick in the rapid inductions and with the right set up you can speed up your show.
If you are doing street hypnosis you have only seconds to catch and keep peoples attention.

Now take the showmen out of this for a second.. how about pain control, or needle phobics, panicked patients in emergency situations and many other areas that a very rapid fery powerful induction could be used to bypass the critical faculty.

This conversation has been populated by us stage hypnotists primarily however there are several of us who have very solid clinical backgrounds as well.

My average one hour show has 50 minutes of material.. that is due to successful use of rapid inductions.

Wow so many people running up onto stage, you do not need an induction with that type of audience you just need to say ok I have to many people up on the stage tonight so what I am going to do is tapped each one of you on the forehead and when I do you will go into hypnosis, the reason why I am starting this show like this is becuase the audience can not wait for you o be hypnotized,so lets start lets take a quick test.

As for my video clip:
The clip was created after the show had finished and all suggestions had been removed, the clip is an example of a person agreeing to be hypnotized.

No disrepect, but working with college kids is an easy audience.

Do you have any clips from small and compact audiences ?
