HypnoThoughts.com

the Free Hypnosis Social Network

There is a lot of great insight and advice on this site. In fact, there is already sooo much that it's getting overwhelming for people new to the site. While this is a great problem to have, I still see it as a problem worth solving. And, as always, I've tried to come up with a fun way to solve it.

I decided we needed to compile the most valuable posts from the site into a single easy to search area. Craig Eubanks quickly advised me to, rather than do it all myself, get YOUR input on what has been most helpful to you.

So I'd like you to take a minute or two and share with us what have been some of the most content rich, helpful, inspirational, practical, fun, or otherwise valuable posts on this site. These can be forum discussions, blog posts, group discussions, videos, etc.

These can be the original post, a comment or reply to it, or anything you want to include from HypnoThoughts.

Please do your best to provide a link to the post you are referring to, as that will help others find it. If you aren't tech savvy enough to do that, please describe it well enough that others can help you find it and post the link in here.

You can put down more than one of your favorites if you wish. Let's see what people have found helpful on this site and go from there.

I'm looking forward to seeing what gets shared, who shares, and figuring out how we can put this to good use.

Thanks to everyone who makes this network such a great place.

Talk to you all soon,
Scott Sandland

Attention Scott Sandland , et al,

The item below is a Most Valuable Post -- It was posted on the "Seniors, their needs, and hypnosis. What's useful, helpful?" Discussion Group

In my opinion, Samuel Lurie's model for helping the Elders in his community is a wake up call for all of us...

>>>Reply by Samuel Lurie on November 5, 2009 at 10:00am: I present workshops regularly at a community senior center. I do 2 or 3 part workshops that are seasonally themed, i.e. Survive and Thrive the Holidays; Overcoming the Winter Blues; Motivate for Spring; Focus for Fall. Regardless of the "theme" individuals will bring whatever their issues are: physical pain, adjusting to new limitations, sleep concerns, to relationships with adult children, son/daughter-in-law, grandchildren, etc. In a workshop, individuals get to identify their own issue, whatever that may be. One 87 year old woman was really committed to working on her life-long anger and range at her own mother, who had died long ago.

It's great when they come in the next session and report on changes in their lives as a result of doing the hypnosis. There's no way for me to predict or specifically identify what is happening for them, but to hear from them what they are getting out of using the tools is just incredible.

I live in New England, where locals tend to be self-reliant, quiet and don't like to talk about themselves. One theme, especially for women, is a lot of "shame" around saying almost anything positive about themselves and guilt for pursuing any kind of self-care or self-pride for fear that it takes away from others. Reframing that alone is really powerful work.<<<

If we pay attention, It is always the season for "hypnotic" assistance.

Hat tip to Samuel!

Michael E.

I sure wish that there was a little Best Posts Ever button or something. I have a folder on my desktop for hypnothoughts posts that I don't want to lose, like a bookmarking system. It could also be used to track the most favorite topics if that's of any value. In fact, Best Posts could even be public and people could go there to see what is of interest.

I've had a helluva time sometimes, trying to find a post I forgot to mark or comes up in conversation. BPA.

Something to think about.

But this site is so incredibly awesome that it could stay as it is and still be the best community going.

Susan

oh, duh, i see that Kathleen already suggested that. lol.

I agree with Susan.

Maybe a voting system could be applied.

So once a post is posted any post getting so many votes etc could go to like a sub category called MVP, if you like the post you (or the reader) could give it a tick, or some other symbol of choice giving it a plus one vote?

And likewise if a post is a bit close to the knuckle or inappropriate then the reader can give it a cross, or some other symbol of choice give it a minus one vote? i personally would say one plus/minus vote per reader to keep it fair and to avoid people being brown nosed or equally, victimized.

It also takes pressure of the moderators and 'we' become a self sufficient community, with the security of the moderators at hand for if or when needed..

Then you could do a highlight feature of MVP of the month? then the year?

What do points equal... PRIZES!! or a complimentary award, certificate, a featured advert at the summit ? or something like that...?

I think that would be great fun, what do you think?

I'm with Susan - I don't care about a ranking rating system - I jsut want a better way to track the ones I want to go back to.

I am basically against any rating system.

I feel it is anti community.

The Ranking system we already have,
is based soley on the quantity of contibutions,
rather than the quality.
It means very little and sets up some sort of false heirarchy.
When in reality, we are all equals.
It has at number four position
a member who has been banned,
(I believe because most of his posts were spam'
which is how he aquired the ranking.)

It would be slightly fairer
if it was based on the number of responses to a thread.
but having said that,
some of the most popular threads
are those in which there has been some sort of flame war,
and the quality of information in those threads is small,
in relation to the number of posts.

I make my own mind up what is useful/ valuable to me,
I keep track of threads that particularly interest me.
I try whenever possible to read eveyones contributions in the discussion thread,
but do not often check out the groups,
and blogs

If people want a ranking system,
I am happy to go along with it,
I would prefer one based on quality rather than quantity
but either way,
I am not likely to take it seriously.

Love and hugs,

Fable

Erm...there's already a ranking system? That's news to me!

I was actually thinking about the same kind of star rating system that's currently used in the videos area. I don't think it's anti-community at all...there's a lot of distributed wisdom amongst the members of HypnoThoughts, and I think the video ratings are a good example of that.

However, knowing how complicated HypnoThoughts is behind the curtain, I think it's a tall order to implement the suggestions I made. But I can dream, can't I?

HI Kathleen,

Yes everyone has a ranking, based on number of posts, blog entries, videos, pictures etc.

Go to anybodies profile page, and find the icon for ' my ranking',
on the left hand side of your page.

Click on the icon and you will see the leader board.

you are presently number 40 in the hit parade.

I seem to remember it was introduced about a year ago as a bit of a fun way to encourage contributions.

Love and hugs,

Fable
