All,

Having been interested in hypnosis for 40 years, I've decided to move towards a second career as a hypnotist. I spent the past 40 as a mathematician.

I'm learning by reading, watching videos online, and working with 4 people know. I induct, work on a small something or provide a nice experience and emerge.

Training is important and I'll do something formal this summer. Certification will come at the same time. I'm a NLP Practioner.

How does one decide between all of the training and certification programs? Is certification necessary?

Thanks, Walt

Dude I would work on your appearance as if that profile picture is a recent one you look a right dork. If you need any help I available to give you some pointers on style, as you got to look the part just as much as being able to play it.

Scott, that's well out of order.
Appearance has very little to do with a person's ability to learn or to perform hypnosis.
I'm disappointed with you. :-(

MANNERS maketh the man, sweetie!

You offered unsolicited advice outside the area of discussion.

I'm really hoping you're Adonis after being so shallow about another's profile pic. Can't say you're looking too hot in yours...

Hi Walt,

I am a professional hypnotist and hold a master of science in financial math. IMO, you don't need a certification unless it is required by your state. Practice and deliberate study are WAY more important. Certification really serves to give people who don't know you confidence, although they may not know that many certification programs are simple rubber stamps. Hope this helps!

kind regards,
Jake Shannon

Scott,
I like Walt's profile picture.

The energy I read is.... warm and inviting.
I wouldn't change a thing.

Maybe your personable skills are in need of a fine tuning? OR
Sometimes we find fault in others to help ourselves feel better....
and this is a forum full of people just waiting to help others feel better, so...

Scott... talk to me. What is it that you need?

Could it be, you just need a new perspective? Could it be the angle of your view?

My best,
Donna.

Walt,
Scott has provided us with an answer to your question.

The certification is only necessary for those who have the perception that it is.

Scott,

You really fu*ked that up... twice.

Why don't you try a third time, and consider the idea that apologies are legitimate response from time-to-time. It shows that you’re willing to be responsible for your actions (inappropriate or otherwise).

Namaste,
(with reverence to you)

Oh, and Walt, welcome to hypnothoughts. Most of us aren't idiots and we mostly don't behave as if we were.

The very best of luck to you in your endeavours.

Henxy.

Walt,
I applaud you for choosing a new career later in life. I also did the same.
I studied Hypnotherapy at a well ranked school. I highly recommend going beyond the books, videos, and close friends. There are many places to formally study - you'll find them on the internet.
The advantage of going to a "school" is that you get lots of experience with your fellow classmates, PLUS, you get feed back from your instructors. And when you graduate, you know that you will have mastered the material and be able to set up a proper practice.

Richard Bandler still plays in my mind after 3 month since my seminar.

Had some celery that tasted like lemon ice cream yesterday. ; 0 )

Walt,
As an NLP'er I'm sure your very keen at spotting micro trance movements etc and I think I understand how your looking to move into hypnosis proper. I would say do a training HMI do a free distance foundation course, other books etc might provide you with the knowledge to 'add' to your tool box. Then go from there.

I find that the work I do with people more than often is an amalgamation of all different processes, Darn that Richard bandler, nobody know what flavour ice cream there eating since he started making all new flavors from the regular available, lol.

It might just be for peace of mind or just to go further into trance phenomena and maybe insurance purposes but it would be worth doing, as for who..? Nobody can tell you the best flavor ice cream for you, you just have to go with gut right?

Never mind the Man without a face.. He probably looks like a troll.

I agree with Jeanene's comments. My instructor required his students to attend private sessions with him and this was the phase of my education that made me fall in love with hypnosis! Being able to practice with other students made all the difference and I couldn't imagine going through training without that...
