Video equipment and making dvd's of shows

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to puchase a new video camera and I was wanting some feedback on what models you use to video tape your shows and or what type you would recommend? I have seen a lot of clips from different hypnotists and there are noticeable differences in picture quality. Also, for those who offer dvd's after shows, what programs do you use to create those? Any info would be great. Thanks so much.

Hey keith,
I have been shooting my shows for 15 years starting with VHS tapes. I use a cannon G2 video camera and i record straight to 2 DVD burners, one is used for back up just in case something goes wrong (and it has) then i use a 7 disc DVD duplicator to burn as many as i need for each show. This allows me to sell them on the spot. I have found I sell more if the customer can get it right now. I also have a small portable DVD player by the stage so people can see the show right after and this also encourage them to buy. I use a Sony DCR-VX2100 video camera and it shoots on to MiniDV. This is a great camera if your shoot a lot of comedy club shows because it shoots in 1/2 lux of light or half a candle light. I use to use Pinnacle Studio for the PC to edit because its easy.

I have videotaped my shows for 20 years using several cameras over that time. I would recommend you stay away from the ones that used the mini-DVD as you cannot get an entire show on it. The cameras with built in hard drives have proven to be a bit temperamental. The new cameras are using memory sticks to store your video, which sounds great. Just get one with enough memory. I am still using the Mini-DV cassette which is getting very cheap to buy as stores are discontinuing carrying them. My friend bought a very good JVC floor model, last one in store marked down to $199.99 and they sold it for half that. what ever you buy look for the camera that fits you pocketbook that requires the least amount of light. This is what makes so many on uTube look good or bad (1 lumen or less).
Lots of programs out there and no need to spend more than $100 on one. If you have VISTA Home Premium on you computer you have windows Movie Maker and Windows DVD Maker that are adequate for making show tapes. I have found that I sell just as many taking their money and orders then mailing them the DVD as trying to make any on site. also, make up some order forms to pass out to each volunteer to take home with them.

I use a Sony hard disc camcorder with a memory card, i take the memory card out and then straight into my sony DVD recorder. First show burnt off in 20 mins
