Thank you Melissa, I appreciate your insight. The patient was on Haloperidol (I have not worked with her at this point so I am not sure why). The TD is a traditional and serious side effect after long term use. I am guessing she may have schizo issues. If this is the case, she may not be a good subject to work with. I've worked with hypnosis for 25 years and have been a nurse for 35 and have never had the opportunity to use hypnosis for TD. It was great that you were able to have a 50% reduction in the symptom.

Melissa--I wonder if it would be possible to move the questions that come to this general forum to topical discussions? It would be so helpful for those looking for information if they could see the questions asked here as separate discussions like those above. I am not sure if NING will allow it to be moved, but I wonder if each person from here could put a new heading. For example, "Tardive Dyskinesia" would be a topic area to which people can respond and have the response comments in the same context as the question.

That would help those who come to the discussion later to post comments useful to the original poster and also to the readers who come along later, looking for additional information. I think that with NING, you as person in charge of the group, can move the discussions around.

Jim Cullum, it is tardive dyskinesia. It is repetitive motion. I"ve only worked with one client with this issue and we were only 50% successful. However, she felt greatly relieved to have some relief from the constant motion. I used a long, head-to-toe progressive relaxation induction followed by anxiety reduction. The second session we again used a longer progressively deep induction followed by Parts Therapy and some suggestions about part of her knowing how to move and how to be still. I think we had 3-4 sessions total and she got about a 50% reduction in symptoms. I used the suggestion that she magnify the movements first. In other words, you must make the symptoms worse first so the unconscious mind assumes it has control. then it can make fewer movements. Hope this helps.

There are a lot of ways to deal with addiction. One of the best new books on the market is Wil Horton's The Alcohol & Addiction Solution, ISBN 9780578031835. Drug and Alcohol addiction is both different from and similar to other issues, especially in the uniqueness of each individual client. As with other addictive behavior, hypnosis is a great modality. I commend Wil's book to all without reservation.

Hello, has anyone here had success with alcohol or drug addiction treatment programs ? I would love to hear how you went about it, Is regression the only way to get to the underlying cause? Thank you for your time, John

I have a question I'd like to put out to the group. Has anyone worked with or is anyone familiar with using hypnosis with a patient who has tartitive dyskinesia? I would appreciate any information or even a good direction to be pointed in. Thanks in advance.

Hi Josceleyne... One more comment. Katherine is exactly right! It goes without saying that one of the masterminds behind hypnothoughts has a great protocol too. I especially like her IBS & fibromyalgia protocols & use them frequently with success! I have several of her books.

The Medical School Hypnosis Association in the UK has an ezine about the research being done on complementary and alternative approaches, including hypnosis. The ezine is free: web: http://www.msha.org.uk

Hi Josceleyne...

Yes... I highly recommend Michael Ellner & Dan Cleary. They are both EXCELLENT. Together they teach a class at the IMDHA conference & are the only non medical presenters at the annual National Pain Week in Las Vegas (& have been invited back next year for their 3rd year) I have been an RN for 25 years, a certified hypnotist for 7 years & was so impressed with their 2 day class that I have to said it was the best I have ever taken, in all those years. This is not to put down OTHER presenters... there are MANY excellent courses out there. Not only did I learn sooo much, but I really enjoyed it, too.
