Hypnosis is being increasingly used in sports settings, and the positive publicity surrounding it is gaining increasing attention. In the last few months alone, various media have reported on gold medal winners from the Beijing Olympics using hypnosis to overcome problems in their performance, and an increasing amount of research is being conducted in this area.

This group is about learning more about the use of hypnosis in sport, and to exchange thoughts and ideas. I hope you find it useful!

Gary

All fears of competition and any other fears one might have can easily be overcome with either hypnosis, self hypnosis or post hypnotic suggestion. If someone think they can do a weight for instance without judgmental critical brain saying "I can't" they can, It is simple to get 120% performance that way

Has anyone taken HMI’s new “hypnosis and sports performance” course? I am considering taking it but I would really like to see some reviews first.

The general attitude of team members is to "want some of the same" work in with team coaches also and they will discover, as I did with Olympic teams that hypnotherapy is better than an additional two hours training every day and can eliminate competition nerves completely.

No problem with a team member, just mention his awareness of his team members and routines. I have trained Olympic competitors, teams and members of teams as well as many World Champions most people would have heard of and there is no problem with "sports hypnosis" as you call it.Have you trained sports people before? Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool which can get 120% performance from any athlete

Thanks Art for your comment. As someone who is learning and developing my skills, I was hoping to gather some advise and/or experiences with using hypnosis to increase flexibility. It has been my experience that scripts are just a template and not a strict formula per se... yes, knowing each individual's experience and background is essential. Once again thanks for your commments.

Hypnosis has been used in sport for for over 40 years, entire Olympic teams are hypnotised in case you would like to know. I was first hypnotised with the Australian team in 45 years ago and became a hypnotherapists as a result due to its effectiveness for nerves and overall performance increase. Personalise consultations, scripts cannot contain each individuals requirements...Art Long

Hi Chris,
I think you hit it straight on when you mentioned visualization. I am a firm believer in the use of visualization processes for everything you mentioned (flexibility, ROM, and the sport of gymnastics). I use it extensively myself in martial arts and with the athletes I work with. Build in confidence, increase focus, and decrease or eliminate nervousness and anxiety through hypnosis and you have a pretty strong mix for training and competition. Also work in the rest and healing process for when they are not training.

As for scripts, someone here might have some ideas. I like to create a session based on individual needs, but there are some great scripts out there. I think A.Rasanga C.Ht a few comments below has worked with gymnasts specifically. He may be of further help.

Much Success To You!
Doug McGannon
