I think this group is a great way for hypnotists to share their strategies with others and learn from each other. So, what is your strategy ... Inductions pre-talk and all

Hello All.

I just wanted to touch base here. I have known John professionally for a few years and since then I have had the pleasure of assisting John in several of his stage shows. I've enjoyed watching him work in street shows and in places so noisy and busy you would never think that dropping someone into trance would be possible.
The Speed Trance Technique is a marvelous method and it is not JUST FOR THE STAGE! I learned the Speed Trance techniques initially from his DVD set and then from observing the Trancemaster himself up close and personal as we worked together. Since learning his method I have had occasion to use them very effectively in 2 events i did for LIJ / Nassau
County Community Hospital employees. These people were already involved Non-Hypnotic Smoking Cessation programs using drugs, gum, and patches that the Hospital was providing to them prior to becoming a manditoy smoke free facility. The participants were already in the third week of the program when they asked me to come in to help because several of them were dropping out of the program or were struggling with it. When I went in to do the first session there was a mis-understanding about what I was supposed to do. I thought that I would be doing a traditional Smoking Cessation Group Hypnosis Session and had prepared for that. But they only gave me a 30 minutes as part of their meeting.
My usual group hypnosis Session for Smoking Cessation takes me over an hour including my pre talk, Induction. deepening the direct suggestions. reinforcement and emergence.
So what I decided to do was give a brief pre-talk to the group and then I take each member aside for a couple of minutes Speed Trance each and gave them suggestions for Reinforcement of their Smoking Cessation Objectives. This allowed he rest of the group to go on with their meeting as I worked in a corner of the room with each participant one at a time.
By the time the meeting was finished I had hypnotized more than a dozen people with only one that I felt I did not actually reach. Pretty darn good by anybody's standards I would say!
When I called the person who organized the event the next day, the basic comment from the participants was simply WOW. When I went back to the other Facility I simply did it the same way and I had almost exactly the same results.
Speed Trance is amazing and it's a tool that every hypnotist should have in his arsenal!
Thanks John for giving me the chance to work with you and share this with my clients. Next up is that I will be using this to Blow the Minds my audiences in my own stage shows!

Jackie Most everyone;s neck is very sensitive, Its also the last muscle in the body to let go. There are a lot of reasons a good hypnotist taps or touches the neck muscle
Jackie Spencer Comment by Jackie Spencer on November 15, 2009 at 6:29pm
Mark - if this is helpful, my neck is very sensitive. If I'm in trance and you touch/tap my neck, you have my attention!

John - Thank you for your kind comment.

Paul - The situation I was in was a private lesson with my stage hypnosis instructor, Ken Dubner. He can trance me out embarassingly easily in just about any setting. In class I learned techniques online, but I didn't know what a stage trance felt like. So I was in a dual role as participant and student. The initial induction had me giggling from nervousness which he utilized to help deepen me. He calibrated well enough to know when the student was trying to keep notes or figure out why something worked (my internal dialogue rarely stops) and was able to shift gears to redirect my attention. Ultimately I was in quite a comfortably deep somnambulism, well past the point of thought or resistance, but it took some work because I was trying to learn, remember and experience all at once.

John, I know your not teaching a class here, but can you talk a little more about "Additionally, so many people tend to be out so deeply, to keep them responsive, it is helpful to place a finger near someone's neck to get the response necessary to actualize the suggestions been given." How does placing a finger there, keep them responsive, or "get" a response? Thanks, Mark

John your so right re the lack of self-confidence. I have only just now managed to use your Cerbone Butterfly and to my surprise (why oh why) did I worry) it actually worked. As you are probably aware I have most of your DVD's and there is no doubt about it,practice makes perfect but at the end of the day, it the confidence in oneself which is of the essence and the getting rid of any self doubts that makes your speed trance materialise to its best

Wow such a long detailed answer John I thought for a moment you were Brian David Phillips!. You touched in one issue that I would like to highlight particularly and that is the mindset or state of the hypnotist. Particularly in doing instant speed trance style inductions... Your own state is of paramount importance! You can't approach these from a "gosh I hope this works" standpoint. You MUST be intensely focused on the the only outcome possible .. Trance. If one has the slightest doubt or misgiving the subject picks it right up and sure enough the induction is a flop. Just my two cents

Kathy, Jesus and Kelley: We are very glad to have you aboard here, thank you for joining us, along with everyone else I may have missed thanking.

Jackie: As a recipient of such an induction, I thank you for sharing your insights and experiences here. I sincerely appreciate your insight from the other side of the fence!!!

Paul: It seems it would be to our mutual benefit for me to clear up perhaps a few misunderstood points.
Firstly, I thought I was agreeing with you in the previous post, apparently that may have been interpreted in some other way. So let me clear things up to the best of my ability.
What I meant about resistance being futile, was my mental approach as a hypnotist in handling a Speed-Trance induction. All too often with students I train, their own self-hesitancy and lack of confidence often stands in the way of their success.
In a talk I had many years ago with my late friend Ormond McGill, we had discussed the idea of intention, or what's going on in the hypnotist mind translating into the the desired result with the hypnotic subject.
In other words, your intent has a lot to do with your outcome. when working this way, while inducing Speed-Trance, in my mind person at hand is already hypnotized, so therefore, I'm simply bringing them very quickly to the intended hypnotized reality, which is the goal of any hypnotist, seeking their best and most beneficial outcome, free of doubt, and with high-speed results, as if I were doing something slower, which of course I'm fully capable of, is not really Speed-Trance. Perhaps something slower would be more along the lines of a rapid induction, or something even slower, like a PRI, a staircase induction, a multiple/mixed verbal induction or numerous older and lengthier techniques.
Further, my holding someone on their back and rocking them has to do with both deepening, while most carefully ensuring their safety as they shouldn't ever fall on the floor, which trust me, if you don't support them in this position, as most of the chairs we use, don't come with safety belts attached, it's so very easy for them to fall onto the floor. Additionally, so many people tend to be out so deeply, to keep them responsive, it is helpful to place a finger near someone's neck to get the response necessary to actualize the suggestions been given. When they are that far out, out in a deep trance state, their subconscious is what's agreeing with me, which is the part of the them we're seeking to directly communicate with to achieve these beneficial outcomes, whenever the suggestions may be. And once again to further clarify, although the actions may appear a certain way when seen on video, in reality as some others have pointed out here and elsewhere, they are simply not violent or physically over the top, even though they may appear that way on video.
I cordially invite you as a friend and colleague, to join me the next time I'm in Europe for training in my techniques, or if you should be traveling to America at a time when classes being offered, I would love to see you there is well, as you seem to be interested in learning more about what I do. I love working with motivated students!!! I do not know if you have studied my work on the dvds Richard and I have produced, as a great deal can be lost on YouTube and other short video clip formats. I would invite you to join me there is well to gain further knowledge of my work. Thanks again for your input and interest. :-D

Hi Jackie. Thanks for the insight. If it is fair to ask, what level of trance did you experience. Light medium somnambulism?

James, Fair comment I take your point. Thank you.
