I was going to suggest the same thing Dennis did. I love binaural beats. Every person I have used them with has raved about how easily they transition from a fully alert state to a hypnotic state and right into a deep sleep state.

Use a hypnotic induction suggesting sleep, etc., then embed the background with delta and/or subdelta waves and soothing music. The human brain with syncronize with the brainwave patterns on the CD, and sleep should follow.
I feel that the effectivness is based on the individual's expectation, and comitment going into listening to MP3. While it is true that there are some CD's that are more effective, and like James mentioned it's hard to really know what your gettin...
