Hi Andreas

Thank you for your message. I was going to contact you too. You are the reason I joined the site since I had never heard of it before.
I am glad the book has arrived and I hope you find it useful.

Best wishes

Guten Tag Andreas!

I am leaving this here as it is rather lengthy. A lot of it is probably redundant to you, but perhaps you can use components of it.

I was taught to include the following components in my smoking cessation program:

1. Assurance of the desire of the client to stop smoking is his own. I ask him to submit a committment form that contains the reasons why he smokes and the reasons he wants to become a non-smoker, plus a date of quitting. Note: if others in the household smoke, the chances of him being successful are reduced.

2. A sound pre-talk informing him of the facts about smoking and the smoking industry, and elliciting more personal details for trance ammunition. (Brand, quantity, cost, motivators, habits such as how he handles cigs, how life will be different as a non-smoker, etc...) Discuss alternative options to triggers (water, exercise, stress tools that he will learn here, etc.)

3. Induction that leads to establishing a safe place and teaches self-relaxation with anchors to success, confidence, etc.

4. Communication with subconscious to make sure it is "on board" with the work we are doing

5. Regression to first experience with tobacco, communication between current and younger selves on the subject or any other that is relevant to stopping smoking

6. Reframing the smoking experience to unpleasant. I use a series of imagery having the client smoke 3 deep drags of his cigarette (I pace my breathing with his), then go to a mountain top for fresh inhales, back to smoke 3 drags on 2 cigs, back to the fresh air, back to smoke 3 drags on a huge cig worth a whole pack of cigs, back to fresh air. After each smoke, ask how his head is feeling, how his stomach is feeling, how his lungs are feeling. He will feel progressively more and more ill. The final episode takes place in an 8 x 8 room, filled with people smoking. Use rich imagery to instill a choking fog of dark smoke. On the table is a near empty can, containing a cigarette butt. Have the client pick it up and sip it. Gross. Back to the mountain top!

7. From the mountain, create a future timeline, a golden line of light stretching out into the sky. There is a fork in it, however, one leads to his future as a smoker, the other to his future as a non-smoker. (Put the non-smoker fork on his dominant side) Guide him down the smoker future first and let him discover what is waiting. You will not have to elaborate on the darkness, he will find it himself. Then, let him experience the alternative. Here, go ahead and embellish the advantages of being a non-smoker. Back to the mountain top and the present: give him the choice and let him decide to become a non-smoker (they ALWAYS do). Have him blow out all of the smoke from all of the cigarettes, along with all of his out-dated, negative emotions attached to smoking, into the sky.

8. Do a Parts check to make sure there is no part of him still wanting to smoke. If there are, identify, dismantle or make alternative options.

9. Run suggestive talk, being sure to address triggers and the new options. Include verbage about being perfectly comfortable around other smokers, increased senses of smell and taste, no need to eat more as food will appear to have more quality, the mind operating more clearly, etc...

10. Future Pace to time when client would normally want to smoke. Address any weakness that comes up. Check with Parts one more time.

11. After-talk includes congratulations, practice self-relax technique, reinforce using it regularly in addition to proper hydration, boosting Vitamin C and calcium intake during the next 3 days. If the client has any cigarettes, he crumples them and tosses them in my trash basket.

Of the steps above, #5 is consistently the most important, as unplugging the beliefs that were established in the past, along with the emotions, is life-changing. Letting the client make a connection with his inner child is very powerful and usually something very new for him.

I have success with this program and charge per session, my regular rate of $100. I offer a "booster" session, if needed, within 72 hrs, same fee. About 25% of clients take this option, I suspect it is because they enjoyed the first session and are excited about not only stopping smoking, but discovering this new part of themselves! I have never had a client ask for a third session. Of the clients I have helped over the past two years (about 30), I know of 2 that have picked up the habit again. Many have contacted me for other issues and have had no trouble remaining non-smokers.

In the case of a second session, I check with Parts for the problem and dismantle or make alternate arrangements. I then use a metaphor story (I posted The White Blankie on HypnoThoughts in the Script Bank) that is designed for the individual, based on why he uses cigarettes. I Future Pace again and use more authoritative suggestions.

So that's the way I do it! Hope it gives you some encouragement...

Best wishes,

Kelley

Since you are a life coach, you may want to download another free book from this site:

Again, absolutely no obligation. I got my training from the author of both books and he is a great source of support and help. Let me know how you liked the books.

Hallo Andreas,
SURPRISE, oder nicht? Die Schwaben sind ja überall und darum natürlich auch hier!
For the benefit of the non-Schwaben: It known the world over, that the people from our part of the country can be found everywhere. You would recognise them when they speak, there is a definite "brogue" to be heard.
BTW, I live in northern Germany for the past 50 years or so and have not lost the "brogue". One of the things I can´t "let go", as we are so often advised to do, when on a spiritual path.
Have Fun!
