Tougher Room Than Vegas?

It's been almost a week since my show in Napanee - the town in which I reside. Performing in my own "backyard" for the first time, I decided to pull out all the stops production-wise. I brought along all the gear: full sound, lights and stage FX, backdrop, etc.

I've performed everywhere from Ottawa to Las Vegas, but this was the one that had me on edge. I think the reason I wanted to leave a really good impression, was the fact that these are the same people I see in the grocery store, the post… Continue

Buzz Bleeds From His Own Big Bite!

This past weekend was a lot of fun. Most of it was spent either in an airplane, a van or a hotel room with very little sleep - but, still a great time.

However, it wasn't without it's trauma. Conveniently located next door to the Best Western I was staying at, was a brand spankin' new Boston Pizza - one of my favourite restaurants. Friday night I had their Jambalaya Fettucine, Saturday's lunch was a Buffalo Chicken sandwich and then a late night pizza on Saturday evening. The trauma I'm referri… Continue

The Bright Lights Of...Chesterville

I just had to share a funny question I faced last weekend. I performed at a small town winter festival out in the proverbial boonies of Eastern Ontario. How small was it? Because of the absence of hotels or motels, I was put up for the night at a bed & breakfast.

Anyway, the next morning, the hostess of the B & B (who also attended the show) told me how she really enjoyed my performance and that she's always in touch with the co-ordinators of several small town fairs and that she would… Continue

Don't Resolve. Just Solve.

If you're reading this blog - happy new year!! Hey - even if you're not reading this blog - happy new year!

Does anyone still set a new year's resolution for themselves? In theory, I don't believe in the whole concept of a "new year's resolution". It sets one up for failure - especially because it often relies on using one's will power (ie. conscious effort) rather than tackling the underlying issue of why you ended up in a situation of having to make that resolution in the first place. In othe… Continue

Quantity Doesn't Necessarily Mean Quality

This past Saturday evening I performed a small corporate show right here in Kingston. I was a little iffy about taking the gig as I was told there would only be about 40 to 50 guests. Due to inclement weather, that number was actually 32. About an hour befor show time, my son (aka, roadie) asked, "Gee dad, wadda ya gonna do if nobody gets hypnotized?"

I took a moment to contemplate the question and then told him "That ain't gonna happen!" Now, admittedly I was concerned with the numbers, but fr… Continue
