Hi Catherine, I quite like Gil's reply, and I have heard similar cases to the one he mentioned. I think the simplest answer is that it depends on the 'mental illness' involved. If the issue is mental, then hypnosis can help, if applied correctly....

Okay Jan, you got me there! I've encountered so much discrimination and ignorance with regard to mental illness that I tend to react blindly when I percieve something that is, or may be, discriminatory in nature or just plain ignorant. My apologies.

Hi Vincent, that was actually a wonderful opening you just gave me there. It's true that physiology affects the mind. Everything else wouldn't make any sense. In fact, I think it's pretty much nonsensical to draw a distinction between mind and b...

Jan, after reading your reply I found myself resenting some things you said. You said that mental issues are inadvertently created by the individual. Maybe some issues are, but not all of them. Some "illnesses" are physiological in nature, or pure...

I've got a controversial opinion about this one... and to explain it, this post will need to be fairly long. Sorry. For one thing I'm highly critical of the psychiatric idea that mental issues are actually an "illness". Often the idea is that "me...

Areas of Specialty:
Helping people overcome their issues. For example I have very good results with nail-biters and people who lack self-esteem
About Me:
I am originally educated as radio and tv-sound technician as well as tv-director/producer. During all my life I have always helped people using my healing techniques. Here in Canada I have become certified Master Hypnotherapist as well as EFT and NLP practitionist.

For the past twenty-five years I have been on a voyage—one that has led me to a deeper understanding not only of myself, but life. One steppingstone — or milestone — was the development of what was told me to be MS. This disease turned out to be a good friend, however, for not only did it instill me with keen personal insight, it illuminated the path my life was destined to take. Encouraged by a supportive inner voice, I brought back my good health.

Whenever I face a challenge, I know and trust that the Universe will always steer me in the right direction

Nail Biting

A couple of months ago a young man contacted me via my website. He wanted to hear if I could help him with hypnosis overcome his problem with nail-biting.

At first I was not sure how to answer him as I had not previously had any clients with that problem at my office however I decided that his problem was a problem like any other problem so yes, I felt sure I could help him so I told him that.

He needed to think it over so after having thought about it for some time he eventually booked a sess… Continue

Cathrine,
I'm sorry for misspelling your name. It's something I try to avoid like the plague, since I know a lot of people are sensitive about that. It was un-intentional, and won't happen again.

Hi Catherine,
Thank you for adding me as a friend. I am intrigued about hypnosis being used to treat mental illness, as I am bipolar and have generalized anxiety as well. I am amazed at how friendly everyone on this site is. I've never had so many people being so nice to me before. Thank you again for accepting my invite to be friends.

Hello Catherine
Hypnotherapy is not normall used in work with patients with mental health issues as it is contraindicated with patients with Schizophrenia and other mental health conditions where the patient is deemed likely to enjoy the trance state in its self and likely to resist leaving it. It is effective with Obssesive/ neurotic disorders and some depressions.Normally I would expect the patient to be refered and support by their medical practitioner.
I hope this helps.
