Excellent point James! Spock IS "so showy" (and frighteningly authoritarian) with his techniques, and he therefore most probably DOES "give all Vulcans a bad name". As a matter of fact, his signature "Vulcan Mind-Meld" technique looks UNCANNILY like…

Sounds great- except that it wouldn't work for me at all because I don't have to feel the least bit hungry to crave dessert, and I wouldn't stop eating dessert just because I felt "full" (if ONLY!). I'd stop eating real "food" if I felt full, but no…

James, In my case you'd have to make that "...about an hour-and-a-half after you finished eating all that wonderful turkey"; because "about one half hour" afterwards I'd still be fully occupied with gorging on DESSERT... Hey, maybe that kitty was…

James, On second thought you may well be right; but that's probably because the cat had just stuffed himself SO full of the birdie's (equally tasty) family members that it fell asleep from sheer exhaustion. Although I'm not proud to admit it, I too…

Call me "negative" if you must, but when I look at that photo I see a hungry cat visualizing whether to garnish that clueless birdie in cream of mushroom sauce, or whether it would be tastier after simmering in cooking sherry with a dash of butter a…

Dave, Sounds good in theory (nifty re-framing!), but I'm afraid that my own efforts weren't terribly successful. The problem is that the "healthy" foods I tried substituting, such as various nuts, fruits, avocado, etc. are ALSO chock full of calori…

Hugh, Halloween was always a killer, but now I live in one of those 55+ adult communities and no kids come to the door, so that's one less problem to deal with. As for those "individually wrapped" pieces, it's certainly not foolproof, but I make su…

Hi James, What has helped me a LOT with my craving for ice cream is buying smaller bowls. I always had a lot of trouble trying to eat just 1/3 or even 1/2 of a normal sized bowl of ice cream, and invariably cheated by tossing in a few extra spoonfu…

About Me:
I'm a European-trained hypnotherapist (now happily retired) who graduated in 1983 from the "Institute for Applied Hypnosis" in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After exclusively devoting more than twelve years of my life to to researching most of the English, Dutch, German and French literature on the subject for the past two centuries, I embarked on a unique mission: to uncover and reveal, for the very first time, the TRUE reason why hypnotism has always been almost universally regarded by both the public as well as most health-care practitioners in such a negative fashion; and the result of that quest has been my book: "A CRITICAL History of Hypnotism: the UNauthorized story".
Hobbies:
Reading, writing, playing a mean game of tennis, working out at the gym, and mercilessly pestering my long-suffering Dutch wife of 36 years.

Daytime dreaming to me is a form of waking hypnosis and also a way for your unconscious mind to realize those things in life that you want to accomplish... ala NLP. I'm not necessarily talking about daydreaming, but actually settiing aside some time…

Kelly, the redirection to joy is an interesting concept. Has nothing to do with getting a new car for Christmas! I believe the reason emotions fail, and then prevail over actions is due to what the Behavioral Psychologists term "Associational Lear…

Thank you, Paul. I agree wholeheartedly with the need to redirect to JOY. It seems most all hypno paths lead to that desired destination. I love your Christmas Grief idea; I had two calls just yesterday involving that issue as this is the season tha…
