Hi Douglas, There is a surprising amount to learn, which is fine if you enjoy the whole performer lifestyle. I would initially start by doing some free shows (charity, fetes, etc) once semi-competent to gain much needed experience. Warmest Rega...

Hi Stage Hypnotists, I just joined the group, as I am intrigued with the art of stage hypnosis. Having just lost my day job as an engineer, I may have time to make a go of it.

About Me:
I'm a professional stage hypnotist, magician & mentalist and the author of the ORIGINAL ebook on safety for stage hypnotists. I started performing at age 15 and haven't stopped yet - and am now the Official Hypnotist to Sandals & Beaches Resorts as well as having taught the first course on safety for stage hypnotists at the NGH convention in 2005. I have been certified with the NGH for about 20 years now and also co-teach the IMDHA classes, with Marcia Proctor, when we can coordinate our schedules. My training includes coursework with Steve Lankton and Dr J. Adrian Williams, as well as my being an entertainment presenter at the First World Congress on Neurolinguistic Programming, which allowed me to attend all of the workshops there. I also am the winner of the MidAmerica Hypnosis Convention's Originality Award for an original hypnotic induction and was a Research Associate at the Illinois Center for Parapsychological Research at Northeastern Illinois University in the capacity of staff hypnotist 1972-74, as an unpaid volunteer staff member.
Hobbies:
Sleight of hand magic, history, science fiction & fantasy, bad movies, film noir, asian martial arts, scuba diving, comedy and trivia. I am also an incorrigible punster and have a liking for cartoons and comic strips, primarily because my father was a cartoonist!

Drug "deletes" painful memories?!

"Technology Review has an article about a common drug that seems to 'delete' painful memories related to a fearful experience. Experiments carried out by neuro-scientists at Emory University show that propranolol, a drug commonly used to treat high blood pressure, can suppress the emotional part of a fearful memory. The results, published in Nature Neuroscience, suggest a new way to treat anxiety disorders. In recent years, scientists have discovered that the simple act of remembering a past exp… Continue

Get out and VOTE this Tuesday!

Last Poll Watcher.

A soldier, dressed in uniform, that of World War One,
Stood outside the Polling Place that night,
Shadowy and pale, a ghostly and transparent wight.

He looked at the young people, passing quickly on their busy way,
a tear formed in his eye and I thought I heard him say,
"I fought and died in the Belleau Wood,
for Freedom's cause, they said,
And now I walk the Lone Patrol
Among the quiet dead.

"But upon each and every Election Day,
I see a ray of hope. And watch as it grows… Continue

Do Demonstrations? You may have an Insurance Problem!

Many of us do lecture demonstrations as part of our marketing programs. They are a great way to educate the public, demystify hypnosis and get people to consider hypnosis as something more than a "last option" in their quest for health, inner balance or even as an entertainment option when looking for a public speaker for their next civic or social group meeting.

For those who work strictly in the self-improvement end of the field, as opposed to those of us who don the greasepaint and tread the… Continue

Robert Lynn Asprin, Friend, Mentor, "Brother," Author has passed away.

What the hell do you say when you get a call from across the Atlantic, from an old friend, telling you that one of your best friends, someone that, although you'd had a falling out years ago, you still owed much of what's happened to you in your life, much of who you are today and much of what you've learned in life - died this morning?

How do you process that information that he was on his way to MarCon, decided to lie down to take a nap and will never get up again?

How do you handle the fact… Continue

Lee Darrow on Ghost Divas Web Radio Show April 9th at 10PM Central Time!

Here's part of what they wrote on their MySpace page about my upcoming appearance on their show this coming Wednesday evening:

Welcome Lee Darrow to GhostDivas-LIVE on Wednesday Night at 10pm Central time !

From what I can gather, we're going to be discussing my work as a parapsychological researcher, some of the University-backed ghost hunts I've gone on in the past and why it's important to do such things right, as in with proper scientific equipment, training and a professional magician on… Continue

Dear Lee,
Great to meet you at Mid America Conf. yesterday!
I have asked about the Stage hypnosis issue and NGH, Rev. Scot Giles
assured me that NGH is loyal to Stage Hypnotists and the practice of Stage Hypnotism. I know currently NGH has some PR problems, I think this may be one such situation. Please correct me if I am wrong. Sincerely, William Mitchell

hi,
my comment was not a personal attack on any individual in particular.
sorry if you felt that.
as for online abuse, hit the delete button, let it dissapear into the ether and forget about it.
to be honest, ive never heard of you, so i wouldnt think of putting any type of comment that would be considered as nasty.

Dear Lee
Well I'll be damned....
Brief history whilst standing on one foot:
College in philosophy and psychology, a brief disillusioning stint in grad school in philosophy followed by a bail out to law school. Private practice for a year, five years as an Asst DA in Santa Fe NM five more years running the state office providing centralized services to the DAs, another year in private practice, then 15 years as General Counsel to the state workers' compensation system. Now a consulting practice evaluating and redesigning workers' compensation programs in North America and Australia. Got a little tired of the distance between me and the folks I was helping, and realized that I have useful experience with retirement issue and the similar issues faced by workers that can't do their old job anymore because of injury, so recently certified with NGH and IMDHA (the paperwork's still in process on that one) to get a little closer to the problem and to try to use the professional journal I edit l to open the workers' compensation industry up to the notion of hypnosis for the prevention of needless disability. In the process got married twice and had two girls, now 19 and 22.
You?
Bob
