Driving along the freeway with my teen son, he commented how the traffic ahead was in a "clot". I laughed and agreed with him.
It wasn't until later that evening, as I worked with a diabetic client who suffers from leg pain that I employed the traffic clot metaphor into our work. My client was "driving" the crowded lanes of Los Angeles traffic as usual when he was magically lifted to the speed limit-free, wide open roads of Montana! He even came up with some perfect car trip tunes to play in hi…

As the anniversary of the passing of a loved one nears, I joined the Bereavement Group here (thank you, Marianne). I shared the following with the group and was once more reminded of the power of words:
I found this piece shortly after I lost my beloved Grandma Fern. It comforted me immensely and I plan to have it included in my own eulogy: It was penned by Henry Van Dyke and is called
"A Parable of Immortality"
"I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to…

I'm back in NYC. My working vacation in Cape Town and Johannesburg was the adventure of a lifetime and I am lucky to be alive! But first, I want to thank my host and sponsor, Claudia Klein, who owns and directs the South African Institute of Hypnotism (SAIH) in Cape Town, and Tom Budge, her associate who runs SAIH's Johannesburg hypnosis training center. Claudia, Tom and everyone that I met in South Africa treated me like a beloved family member. I will always remember and appreciate Claudia's a…

I'm smiling because I just received an email from a client I worked with over a year ago. Our main focus was on stress relief and helping to eradicate an irritating skin condition. Her skin did calm down and return to normal shortly after our session (emotional release did the trick), yay!
This client is a person open to many alternative approaches and had displayed interest in learning to use an ideomotor pendulum. I taught her the techniques, during which time she complained about losing a sp…

So today I ended up in an online conversation (away from Hypnothoughts) with someone who said, "I can't be hypnotized. Hahahaha!"
Now, I generally won't engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent, but I did briefly reply that anyone who says that doesn't really know what hypnosis is.
The other poster came back, saying, "I beg to differ. I've been in the chairs of several hypnotists, all of them doctors, and none of them could put me under. One of them, a Ph.D. in psychology, was amaze…

With every client that I meet, I become more and more aware of the value of stepping outside of myself. It's a real juxtaposition to take, because I realize that the work that I do requires my full attention and involvement of my own subconscious.
With that in mind (haha), I now know that I must keep my own perceptions, desires, triggers, etc., out of the way. For example, I just uploaded a few of my favorite nature photographs. Each one brings up a wealth of emotion when I view it; nature itse…

I've been doing alot of thinking lately about hypnosis. (lol I always do alot of thinking about hypnosis. it's an obsessive passion.) Well I do what I can to share my love of hypnosis.. ussually it involves the words.. "Hypnosis can help with that..." whenever I hear someone complain about something or other. That's when most times they freak out "OH NO.. I would NEVER let someone mess with my mind like that." "I like to be in control way too much... I couldn't let someone hypnotize me.." Well y…

I was listening to the radio today and heard something that sparked an idea in me. There was a speaker talking about how to be "calm, cool and collected," and she mentioned the fact that we tend to wallow in the past. We revel in how miserable we are because we hurt our friends' feelings or we didn't stick to our diet or ...
In other words, we don't move on.
We stay stuck in the past, forever reliving and re-experiencing what is most likely no longer an issue for anyone else. And then we wonde…

To me stress is like a dementor. I am sure most of you have watched the “Harry Potter” films, especially our younger generation. You should therefore be familiar with the dementors that played such a prominent part. The first time our friend Harry met these foul creatures was in the Prisoner of Azkaban. My son even bought the book, not that he ever took the time to read it.
Dementors are supposedly dark creatures that feed off human happiness and causes depression and despair. They are capable…

Quote of the Day

be so simple that we couldn't." --Lyall Watson
PANIC ATTACKS

Symptoms of panic attacks include: sweating, shaking, rapid heartbeat, rapid pulse, sweaty palms, hyperven…

Every year around Halloween, I dress up as a wizard and do hypnosis demos at the local municipal Halloween bashes--it's a way of participating in the local community, which is vital when you're operating in small towns. Because some of the children don't always have their parents present to sign a permission slip, I keep a few "not-magic tricks" handy to entertain them when I don't have a trancer in the chair.
So yesterday, I was demonstraing ideomotor action with a device called a tri-pendulum…

Tonight I went and saw a Stage hypnosis show at an amusement park I went to visit. Since I have begun studying hypnosis after having had the experiences I had with it... I found it very entertaining. I was very curious to see his induction and suggestability tests. Moreso It was great seeing the reactions of those that were hypnotized. I did wonder however why he did not do more of an instant induction on the subjects... Well anyway I know this is short but that was pretty cool to me. He gave al…

Hi
I've been wondering lately whether twitter really can be used to effectively communicate useful information, given the short characters limit, so, I decided to begin a bit of an experiment.
I have written a bunch of short, sharp hypnosis tips (such as quotes from Milton Erickson, language pattern examples, and simple advice) and hooked it up to a fancy twitter machine thing I found which will auto post them once or twice a day. I'll also manually post ideas / news etc myself.
So, if you hav…

Do you sometimes feel that you’re selling yourself a little short or that there must be more success and fulfillment right under your nose?
