I have found it interesting how people have a different perspective on the subject of hypnosis. Recently I finished reading the book Hypnosis in Clinical Practice by Rick Voit and Molly Delaney, and I must say it is interesting that many therapists actually do shy away from using hypnosis because of performance anxiety, or simply that they may "do it wrong".
While I agree that hypnosis is not the answer to every situation, however it is a very powerful and effective tool. The question remains a…

World Hypnotism Day Jan. 4, 2010
WHD is just around the corner and time is of the essence in planning and organizing an event in your area. This day is a gift given to us by it's creator Tom Nicoli. Every hypnotist who considers themselves an expert in this profession and I know all on this site are EXPERTS must start the process in planning your WHD event. If you feel the need to plan an event with other hypnotists call some of your colleagues and do a group event.
Now I know some of you are…

Hypnosis has 'real' brain effect
Hypnosis
Hypnosis can be used for overcoming anxiety and addiction
Hypnosis has a "very real" effect that can be picked up on brain scans, say Hull University researchers.
An imaging study of hypnotised participants showed decreased activity in the parts of the brain linked with daydreaming or letting the mind wander.
The same brain patterns were absent in people who had the tests but who were not susceptible to being hypnotised.
One psychologist said the stu…

In ancient Greece, if you were anxious, fearful, or depressed, you would consult a philosopher. The philosopher would probably start by asking you what you believe about life -- about yourself, the world, and the future. When you would get to an idea which appeared to be irrational or downright wrong, the philosopher would debate with you until you had cast out this irrational belief and, when this was done correctly, your depression, fears, and anxieties would almost invariably vanish.

Quote of the Day
"If the human brain were so simple that we could understand it, we would
be so simple that we couldn't." --Lyall Watson
PANIC ATTACKS
Panic attacks are generally brief, lasting less than ten minutes. Symptoms may persist for a longer time. A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear that develops for no apparent reason and that triggers severe physical reactions.
Symptoms of panic attacks include: sweating, shaking, rapid heartbeat, rapid pulse, sweaty palms, hyperven…

Hi
I've been wondering lately whether twitter really can be used to effectively communicate useful information, given the short characters limit, so, I decided to begin a bit of an experiment.
I have written a bunch of short, sharp hypnosis tips (such as quotes from Milton Erickson, language pattern examples, and simple advice) and hooked it up to a fancy twitter machine thing I found which will auto post them once or twice a day. I'll also manually post ideas / news etc myself.
So, if you hav…

The word God has become empty of meaning through thousands of years of misuse. I use it sometimes, but I do so sparingly. By misuse, I mean that people who have never even glimpsed at the realm of the sacred, the infinite vastness behind that word, use it with great conviction, as if they knew what they are talking about. Or, they argue against it, as if they knew what it is that they are denying. This misuse gives rise to absurd beliefs, assertions, and egoic delusions, such as "My or our God i…

Most of us have heard the saying, "looking at the world through rose-colored glasses," which refers to the tendency of some over-optimistic people to see the world around them as or more positive than it actually is. But there are many others who have problems with anxiety or depression are inclined to look at the world through
mud-colored glasses, regarding people and events as more negative or more threatening than they really are.
Following is a list of some of the more commonly use…

Much as we may hate to admit it, the reputation that hypnosis has in the eyes of the public as a potential source of sexual exploitation is sometimes accurate.
Carla Emery's book, entitled,
Secret, Don't Tell! The Encyclopedia of Hypnotism, published in June, 1998 by Acorn Hill Publishing Co., is indeed a one-volume illustrated encyclopedia of hypnotism (she also wrote
The Encyclopedia of Gardening), but it has another purpose. It would appear that the author is intent on prov…

As I get ready for tonights video chat, I am reminded of how the internet has brought us together as a hypnosis community in the recent past, and how it has provided so many opportunities. Event like the HypnoSummit are experimental today, but will be the main vehichle for hypnosis contonuing education in the future.
Last year when I did my weekly video chat and conference at www.NongardTV.com it was very well recieved, and I hope made a difference in the skills of those who participated. I am…

Looking at this forum, and hypnosis forums elsewhere (and my own personal message inbox and email) we seem to be flooded by the same question over and over again.
It basically reads "I am trying to hypnotize but it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?"
When trying to answer them all individually, find out what exactly is happening in that instance, and explain how to fix it, I noticed some constant underlying themes verified by my own memories of what it was like to be just starting out.
Of c…

While searching through my old computer files I came across these two articles I wrote quite a while back.
For some reason, neither found their way onto KeysToTheMind.
Although they are old, the information is pretty solid, so I thought i'd make them available to you here.
I have published them as PDF files, so please feel free to download, read, share and distribute.
I hope you find them useful!
