Last weekend the main daily newspaper in my locale, the Asbury Park Press, had an article on how in the ongoing national healthcare debate, some lawmakers are clamoring for increased incentives for the public to engage in healthy behaviors.
There were some interesting statistics cited in the article regarding the health behaviors of adults in my home state of New Jersey during 2008. National averages are also included in brackets as a contrast.
OBESITY- 23.6 percent are obese. (26.6% national…

Just wanted to give a heads up to all my fellow hypnotists and hypnotistas in the US about a new scam targeting business owners. I noticed over the past few weeks that the caller ID on my office phone indicated that a "Beyond Media" (646) 448 6763 was calling several times a day, but never leaving a message on voice mail.
Having encountered phone scams in the past, I googled the number. According to some consumer complaint websites Beyond Media is an outfit that calls business owners on the pre…

I received some good news this week, that I had been voted Best of the Best in the Asbury Park Press Annual Reader's Poll (Holistic Care-Ocean County) for the third straight year in a row.
Apart from the personal satisfaction, it heartens me that the general public is increasingly viewing the service of hypnosis counseling (and the people who provide it) as valid and beneficial.
I am also thankful to the community here at HypnoThoughts who freely provide so much feedback, insight and support.…

This was the feature article in the latest edition of the Creative Calm Newsletter...
Why is it we can have behaviors and responses that are clearly not in our best interest, yet we still persist with them?
For example, many of my clients have been frustrated and even embarrassed because they have not been able…

This article was featured in the most recent issue of Creative Calm online newsletter...
Most readers of the Creative Calm Newsletter have at least a passing familiarity with Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) or the study of how language "programs" the nervous system, similar to software on a computer. "Garbage in, garbage out" applies not only to your PC or Mac, but your mind as well.
Not unlike computer code, language can have subtle yet influential and important nuances you may be…

An excerpt from Unleash Your Inner Winner by James Malone
So-called skeptics may dismiss the importance of belief and attitude when it comes to success in athletics and other high-performance situations, yet those in know, know better!
If you ever have been to comedic stage hypnotism performance, you might have seen the following skit. The hypnotist takes one of his volunteers and says, “in a moment I am going to count from 1 to 3. On the count of 3 you will TRY to stand up but the hard…

Regular readers of my Creative Calm newsletter will remember a few issues back how we covered a potential danger of the highly processed sweetener, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). One of the methods commonly used to convert raw corn into HFCS can leave traces of mercury in the finished product-a toxin unsafe at any amount. Also, the body has difficulty in metabolizing HFCS and it can contribute to unwanted weight gain.
Apparently the word is getting out that HFCS is not a healthy choice. Annua…

Did you know that Irish folk healing was known for having several odd yet effective treatments for warts? I recently came across the following in a book on traditional remedies:
WART REMEDIES OF OLD IRELAND
"On meeting a funeral, take some of the clay from under the feet of the men who bear the coffin and apply it to the wart, wishing strongly at the same time that it may disappear, and so it will be.'
"Tie up some pebbles in a bag with a piece of silver money, and throw it on the road. Whoev…

An enduring image in hypnotism is that of the spiral. This symbol was important to the ancient Celts and was said to represent the circling or wanderings of the soul, which eventually returns to the center or truth. Other ancient cultures believed that energy flow…

If you read the last issue of my Creative Calm Newsletter you will recall we discussed the idea of the media either accidentally or intentionally creates a lot of negative expectation regarding New Year’s Resolutions.
Afterwards I began to wonder if making January 1st the day to set resolutions was ill-conceived.
A few years back a psychologist calculated that January 23 is the worst day of the year for a number of reasons. The weather is cold and the sunlight is minimal, at least in North Ame…

A lifelong fan of clever wordplay, one of my favorite quotes goes, "
yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that is why its called the PRESENT."
This being the season of giving set me to wondering, is it possible that being fully PRESENT for another person is the best gift we can give? Full, undivided attention where we actually listen for a change?
The other day I was meeting with a new client for the first time. A consulting hypnotist really needs to ask deta…

So the results are in for the most important voting process of the year. No, not that one! The Asbury Park Press Annual Readers Poll has announced its results and for the second year running I was voted Best of the Best-Holistic Care Ocean County.
Obviously I was thrilled to be voted in again, however what makes me just as happy is that this shows that hypnosis counseling is gaining greater recognition and acceptance as helpful service in the public eye.

Although for the record I am somewh…

What is it about a good story that truly entrances us? Healing and teaching stories are as old as mankind and cause us to turn our attention inward and discover hidden truths within.
To this end I have written an ebook entitled Nine Hypnotic Tales-Fascinating Stories for Your Positive Transformation. It contains nine of the stories I have used most often since I began my hypnosis counseling practice in 1995.
Some of the stories may be familiar to those of you in the healing community, others w…

Lets see, we have rising fuel prices which are sending out shockwaves throughout the rest of the global economy.
There have floods of biblical proportions in the Midwest and record foreclosures brought about by the predatory behavior of the lending industry.
And talented yet troubled British R&B singer Amy Winehouse has somehow given herself emphysema at the ripe old age of 24. These are all forms of stress, right?
Well, actually no. To be precise the news stories listed above are actuall…
