So today I had a ribbon-cutting ceremony at my office, to celebrate joining the local Chamber of Commerce. My picture will be in the local paper, and I get to provide the write-up. Nice, huh? When some of the local business people asked me a few questions, one of my clients who was present jumped up and answered their questions with glowing praise for my abilities. I got to just dig my toe in the ground and say "Aw, shucks . . . "

The other interesting development is that I've been promoting my new workshop and CD called "Dance Like a Goddess"; it's about applying hypnosis to help belly dancers improve their performance. (And yes, it does occasionally lead to me standing in a room full of tranced-out belly dancers. Tough life.) Since I've been playing music for the middle-eastern dance community for years, it just seems like a natural niche for me to pursue.

Anyway, I've sent my CD to several dance teachers and/or podcasters whom I hope will help me set up workshops and promote the CD. One of them called me yesterday to say that she thinks every belly dancer on earth should use it. Others have been so enthusiastic that they are sending me lists of other people to contact and network with. I have three workshops scheduled in different states in July. (I work them around my music touring schedule.)

That sounds like a fun niche to be in. I didn't know you played Middle Eastern music ... I used to play the doumbek until I had to sell it a couple years ago (needed money badly enough). I still have a mini-djembe, though, and recently added a tabla drum to my collection (only the larger one of the set, though).

Congratulations, James! That is an amazing niche that you have carved out for yourself. That does seem like a very "trancy" form of dance, so I'll bet your CD will do well!

The interpretation of trees is fascinating, and valuable. Individuals reveal a lot about themselves in the trees that they draw. I uploaded a sample from my files with client permission, so that those interested can use it to start the discussion.
